Whew! Just did a major update to the interactive map

The interactive version of the Map of Human Sexuality has been largely re-written; I’ve fixed a number of PHP error messages, added two new options (“tried and didn’t like,” “like in fantasy only”), updated the map itself to the current version, made the pins smaller so they don’t obscure as much, and made a lot of behind-the-scenes database changes that’ll help things out going forward. And all this without breaking the display of existing maps.

The one thing I most need to do, make the ability to remove a pin you place by accident, still isn’t done. I’m working on it! If/when I get that one licked (I know surprisingly little PHP and JavaScript, when all is said and done), I’ll add an option where you can enter a username and a password when you save your map so you can go back and edit it later. Whee!

And now to see if I can go see Watchmen.

  1. If you want to see it in IMAX, the Mall of Georgia’s sold out today. But I called last night, and the new IMAX theater in Morrow had tickets for their 6:45 and their 10:30, for $12.50 a seat. We’ve got some projects to work on, but that’s how I want to reward myself later.

  3. Just got my map last night in the mail! (Well, it might have been there earlier… I just got around to checking my mailbox last night…)

    Love it! Thank you!!!

I have a friend who does framing, and I’m going to have her frame it to look like one of those fancy old-fashioned maps. Y’know, something that looks perfectly respectable from a distance, but would then make the casual observer do a double-take. (None of MY friends, of course, but, y’know, if the parents stop by…)

    😉

  5. I think there are several types of “in fantasy only.” There’s fantasizing about yourself doing something and there’s sort of playing a movie in your mind of other people doing it. There are some things that I fantasize about in the second way all the time but it would totally gross me out to think of myself being involved in them. (Even myself *actually in the scene* watching.)

Most of my fantasies are actually of the second type, even if it wouldn’t bother me to have the first type of fantasy about them (or I sometimes do have the first type of fantasy about them). I sometimes wonder what that says about me.

  7. Wanted to let you know that my maps arrived safely a bit more than a week ago, and Spectrum is delighted with his (as I am with mine). Thanks again for inventing this!
