Calling upon the community for help…

So, as many of you folks know, I have a number of different Web sites, one of which is aw SymToys. That’s the Web site where I have Onyx, the sex game I’ve developed, and I also have a bunch of BDSM tutorials and that kind of stuff there as well.

One part of the site I thought would be an interesting experiment is Whispers, which is a place that people can talk about sexual fantasies. I’ll admit to a small, teensy bit of an ulterior motive for putting it up; if it gets enough content, it might act as a way to keep people coming back to the site. But more than that, I thought it might be an interesting experiment in applied sociology.

It got some content early on, but it’s not received many postings recently, even though it does get a fairly high number of page views (typically a few hundred visitors a day). I suspect that part of the reason it doesn’t get a lot of contributors is a kind of chicken-or-egg thing; if folks don’t see a lot of other people contributing, they’re less likely to contribute themselves. And the things that have been submitted so far tend to follow the same general theme, probably because people go with stuff similar to what’s already there.

So, I’m calling on the combined creativity of my friends list. If you’d like, visit the Whispers submission page and contribute something yourself! When i say it’s anonymous, I mean it’s really anonymous–I don’t even track visitor IP addresses in the submissions form.

  1. i had an idea like this a few years ago, to create an all-woman or at least women-friendly not visual-men-dominated porn site, when it was a membership fee per month. The idea was that women aren’t as visually focused as men, but loved to read about sex. I figured i’d hire a couple writers to write some nice stuff and invite all the members to submit their own things anonymously without the fear of people taking their writings or misusing them.

    Looks like you beat me to the chase 😉

    • In a sense, isn’t that what Literotica is, minus the pay for access part? (I’ve heard that registered users who’re women outnumber registered users who’re men by about 4 to 1 on Literotica). I think the real revenue stream in something like that isn’t in subscriptions–it’s hard to succeed at pay-for-access any more without some tremendously compelling, top-shelf content–but rather in advertising or collateral sales.

      And you know, I just now realized that your userpic is a visual pun on your user name. 🙂

  4. Actually, that’s a great idea! I don’t know how to go about setting up an RSS feed to LJ, but if oyu want to do the honors, whispers_rss would probably be a good name.

  5. Onyx

    Tacit – Been lurking on your site and journal for some time and finally opened an account. Whispers is lots of fun. Also, hub and I played Onyx one Sunday afternoon a couple weeks ago. Very yummy. Trying to scrape together some time to play again and hopefully have some friends join us.

    Mind if I add you?

  7. Hey, fun. My partner is living over a kilomile from me for a few months, and this is the second time this LD has happened. We survived the past experience, and are surviving the current one, via an awful lot of fantasizing over IM and Skype. And we tend to keep records, so I have a library of maybe 20 (and growing) intricate fantasies and scenarios we’ve devised in moments of distance-induced hyperlibidinism.

    If I can convince her to be not mortified with posting them (even anonymously), I may start transcribing them and putting them up on whispers for y’all. ;

    I certainly enjoyed many of the ones I read there tonight!
