Getting Off: the Quest for the Orgasm

So we’re partying at Shelly’s new pad in Gainesville, and the conversation turned (as it always does) to sex.

I’ve had a vasectomy; best $150 I’ve ever spent. Prior to that, I always relied on mechanical or hormonal birth control, and with condoms now at a buck apiece (or more!), goddamn if that doesn’t get expensive after a while. And you know, people just don’t think about the amount of money they spend every year to get off.

So, I’m curious…

  1. Penis In Vagina sex is rarely pleasurable for me. I spent so so many years masturbating that my hand can bring me to ejaculation quite efficiently, but the sensation of PIV is sufficiently different that I have to concentrate and then I’m not sufficiently concentrating on my partners pleasure (well, I am a submissive :-)). I think I’ve only ejaculated once, condoms or no (I’m fluid bound with 2 people in my poly family), through PIV.

  3. The New Pad In Gainesville

I had my tubes tied a few years ago and Jeffery had a vasectomy several years ago, so on a daily basis it isn’t a concern. Grin… We do the condom route with our partners.

    BTW, welcome to Gainesville.

  5. But what interests me more is that you had to pay $150 for your V – got his for free, and I just assumed it was part of birth control.
His was scalpeless (did I spell that even remotely correctly?) which was the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.
It just never occurred to me that birth control isn’t the same everywhere, although globally we’re all affected by population growth. Obviously, I have some reading to do!!

    • If you don’t mind a total stranger asking, how was his v experience? I’ve seen billboards for scalpeless vasectomies, but wonder if “scalpeless” translates to “relatively painless”.

      • At the time, we weren’t even dating, we were just in the same online group, but he needed a ride and asked me to take him. We sat in the waiting room at 8:59 am on a Friday, the doctor came out at exactly 9am, I asked “Hey do you allow spectators” and I guess the doctor thought we were a couple, and said yes, which is how I saw the whole thing. It took 15 minutes of all the sterilizing, 10 minutes for the cauterization and we were back in the car at 9:25 am. I drove home and he sat at his computer with a bag of frozen veggies until Monday. He did *exactly* as the doctor said – word for word – light duty on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday at work, by Thursday he felt as good as new. He had a couple of other g/fs (in his single slutty days) so I don’t know how the initial sex was, but now – 5 years later, there is absolutely no change in sex for him.

I think the key is following exactly what they tell you – my ex had the surgical type in 1988 and thought he could ignore the doctor completely. He ended up having to go back to the doctor’s for something, and it took almost 3 weeks for the pain to subside and the operation itself had been the better part of a day (with checkin etc) – I had shared this with before he went in so literally – if the doctor said “do it”, he / we did – right from getting a cup of ice at McDonald’s for the drive home. It was all the difference, and if you ask directly, he’s not only willing to talk about it, but he’s a HUGE fan of the procedure now.

      • Shhhh – we call them “rants” – well actually my father calls it loudly expressing his opinion, but since it’s hereditary I figure I can be proud of “ranting” ;-D

Well okay – and I like to stir the pot now and then…… ;-D

    • I also had the scalpleless vasectomy; I think it’s largely replaced the more traditional “cut you open and snip the vas deferens” kind. Less recovery time, and less pain, I’m told.

I was under general for the procedure, though. I have very vivid and distinct memories of being wheeled into the room, of looking up as the anesthesiologist said “Okay, now we’re going to–” and the next thing I knew, i was in the parking lot walking toward the car. Flipped me off like a light; it was the weirdest thing EVER.

      • I bet! That’s probably why the guy used told him to bring a ride, but the anasthetic they used was topical, then a needle.

When I had my tubes done, laparscopically, it was 55 minutes, but of course with women they still have to put you under – still 55 minutes was a darn site better than the day or so back when my sister had hers done.

    • I was wondering how I was going to respond to this poll until I read that. Under that logic, I chose $25, which I figure is about the average price for a dreamcatcher. Mind you, they’re multi-use. – ZM
