Richard Dawkins is my hero

Courtesy of datan0de, Richard Dawkins argues against the existence of an involved and personal God, and argues strongly in favor of the value of truth.

I love, love, love this man. “Nothing wrong with being happy, but some of us feel that being truthful…is better than living a lie… If you believe that God told you to invade Iraq…having that kind of unshakable conviction can be very dangerous in a politician.”

The interview concerns the book The God Delusion, which is now on my Amazon wish list.

  1. Wow, that’s really great! 🙂
He’s such a nice guy about it too!
and totally on the spot too. We need to seriously unplug from the God machine if the human race is to survive even the next 50 years or so.

  3. I heart Richard Dawkins a lot. I love that he’s so snarky!

I’m in the middle of The Ancestor’s Tale, which is a backwards chronicle of human evolution, and it’s delightful, engaging, and fun. It’s especially tailored to an amateur paleobiology geek like me.

  5. I totally appreciate what I know of Dawkins; he and others like him are badly needed to start to balance out some of the religion craziness. However, here is a recent opinion brought up in light of this wave of atheism I found interesting: http://www.alternet.org/story/51887/ (I have not read Dawkins book so I cannoy comment on the accuracy of the criticism.)
