Some thoughts on free will

So a few weeks ago, I had a choice to make.

On the one hand, I could go to a local science-fiction convention, where I would be surrounded by freaks and weirdos and other very cool people, and watch all the half-naked chicks running around, and stay up partying all night, and demonstrate sex toys.

On the other hand, I could fly to Graph Expo in Chicago, and hang out with salesmen and print shop managers, and stay in a booth until my feet hurt, and wake up VERY early in the morning, and demonstrate page-imposition software.

Seems like a simple choice to make, no?

So here I am in Chicago, where it’s more windy than any sane person would think possible.

One silver lining, though: My sinus infection, which has been bugging me for the past three months, and which I’ve been unsuccessfully treating with antibiotics that cost eighty bucks for seven, disappeared completely less than a day after I arrived in Chicago.

Florida weather…feh.

  1. Chicago is awesome!

I’ve only been there once and I enjoyed it very much….
Including the wind you refer to 🙂
Don’t you think it’s kind of pretty at night?

Actually, it IS pretty at night–what little I could see of it.

Unfortunately, I had no time to explore the city at all, and the inside of one convention center looks pretty much like the inside of another. *sigh*

I’ll have to go back some time when I can actually explore the city a bit.

There’s a couple of things I did when I was there that were pretty fun-
I went on an architecture tour- saw buildings by Frank Lloyd Wright… and went to the museum…

Unless you plan on going to a club- the pier isn’t too impressive…

However, we got a tip from a taxi drive that I was dissapointed not to be able to follow-through on.. We thought about going to the famous blues club…. but he told us that Blue Chicago was WAY better…. (if you’re into blues music) It was a bitter disappointment not to be able to go to that…

Also- the comedy Improv troupe is pretty cool (blanking on the name right now- the club where pretty famous folks got there start- something with the words second hand in it….?)

  5. Which Sci-Fi convention was this? (I’m in Orlando–I don’t get to hear much about Tampa events)

I’m primed to attend my first sci-fi con, having just put down “Stranger in a Strange Land”. Are they readily occuring throughout the year within driving distance?

    • Necronomicon. Held every year in October in Tampa. It’s a mid-sized SF convention, usually a good time.

Necro is the big Tampa convention. There are a handful of others (Vulkon, the Star Trek convention, comes to mind), but they’re significantly smaller; I don’t know much about them.
