False Advertising

So a few weeks back, zaiah and I went shopping, and found a bargain basement bin of B-movies (say that ten times fast!) for about five bucks each.

Some of the movies were cheesy old low-budget horror flicks that have been re-released on DVD by a company which uses a woman being ravished by a tentacle monster as their logo:

Now, I may be a purist, but I don’t think that anyone should be allowed to put a picture of a woman being ravished by a tentacle monster on the front cover of any DVD that does not actually contain scenes of a woman being ravished by a tentacle monster. That is DEFINITELY false advertising, it is.

I also think it’s kind of interesting that “woman being ravished by a tentacle monster” has apparently become kind of synonymous with “horror movie.” I <3 living in this society...

  1. I think you’re looking at the “after dark horrorfest” logo.
After all, i suspect there aren’t 8 horror films on that DVD, and the actual cover was reduced and left and top border added for the series imprint…..

I concur. There oughta be a law. 😛 It’s not fair to get my expetactions all up like that and not deliver the goods.

  5. I would like to point out that it doesn’t appear to be rape – the woman doesn’t appear to be distressed or anything – plus she doesn’t appear to be human either, as her body proportions are screwed up and she either has no breasts or else her neck is twisted around backwards. Maybe the monster is a fleshwarper or something…

  7. The tentacle monster looks like the ‘tooth fairy’ demon from Lenore the Cute Little Dead Girl (this and this episode) – if you haven’t seen it in all its mind-warpy goodness, I recommend setting aside an afternoon. They’re short little episodes, but oddly compelling, and it’s quite common to end up watching all of them.
So um, yeah… usually I find the idea of tentacle monsters quite attractive, just not that one!
