tacits-computer:~ tacit$ uptime

I never restart this computer. Like, never.

30 days? How cute 😉
Yeah, I know, I know. This is my desktop box! Desktop, not server! 😛

Only 30?
To be fair, this is my desktop machine, not the server. The server’s current uptime is approaching two year right now; it’s running Gentoo.

I only reboot my computer when it starts moving so slow that I can’t do anything (I have Vista, it happens about once a week) or when my external harddrive overheats and I have to reboot the machine and the drive both to get it to respond.
I have an old mac & I prefer to avoid rebooting as well *lol*

Must have had a kernel upgrade 😉
Or a power outage… no other reasonable explanation for an uptime that short!
My 10 day uptime is due to physical hard-drive shuffling.

Yeah, I used to do that, too. I had a SunOS box on my desk with uptime of a year; critical kernel patches where few and far between back then.
These days my Ubuntu machines there seems to be a security something or other every day. And, anyway, I’ve taken to shutting down my (desktop) machines when I’m not using them, for energy saving reasons. Fortunately my machines boot far faster now than then.

My Ubuntu box only reboots when there’s a necessary upgrade or I lose power like I did during Gustav.
Now I’ll have to check my uptime when I get home to see what it is, probably around 5 days.
We have a Gentoo server in the back that’s been running continuously for almost two years now. I’m not a fan of Gentoo, but I will admit it’s pretty damn stable.
