  1. I do! I do! I know tappas now! I tried it in DC, when I was tere last. It’s mini food! You order a dish, and it has four or five mouthfuls on it. The idea is that the table orders several different dishes, everyone takes a little, so you end up with a very eclectic custom made meal reflecting the tastes of those attending.

  3. Tapas (IPA: [ˈtapas]) is the name for a wide variety of appetizers in Spanish cuisine. They may be cold, such as mixed olives and cheese, or warm, such as puntillitas, Andalusian battered, fried baby squid. In the United States and the United Kingdom, tapas have evolved into an entire cuisine; at Spanish restaurants, patrons may order many different small tapas, and combine them for a full meal.

  5. The origin of the name “tapas” is that in Spain they used to “top” beer glasses with dry pieces of bread to keep the flies out. These over sized croutons eventually evolved into snacks that had their own toppings on them, this then further evolved into all sorts of little bite sized tidbits. The concept of tapas (as a veritable feast of appetizers) is very similar to the Greek ‘mezedes’ (which means ‘tastes’) and the Turkish “mezes”.

In Greece the waiter will keep bringing dishes to the table until you tell him “Poli, poli!” to signify that you’ve had enough. I’m not sure if there’s a Spanish custom anything like that, but in the US you usually just order what you want and if you want more, you order more.

    Have a great time!
