I am comforted by the fact that I have spent so little time in the last year on Windows (and none on Vista) that I had to actually go lookup the abomination that is aero to find out what it is…

Aero is the new gee-whiz graphics-card-hogging user interface for Windows Vista. Its a study in ugly, transparent windows that blur the stuff below them and lots and lots and lots of drop shadows everywhere…plus the Start menu button is, for some reason, round. Plus hitting Alt-Tab makes the windows tilt at an angle and “flip” in 3D, which is kind of like Expose on the Mac if Expose was 3D but wasn’t useful.
Yeah. Sounds about right. It’s a less useful, resource-hogging version of Beryl, which I love.
My favorite bit on Beryl is that I can get a scaled layout of all my open apps (all appearing as a full non-overlapped window) and pick the window I want to view. *So* much more convenient than alt-tab or a trip through the taskbar (when the taskbar gets too crowded).

aero took everything that was usefull about WinXP Pro (yes, I know that’s a short list), and removed it. Then it took everything that is cool looking about a Mac OS … and destroyed it.

I’m not sure what Aero is, but I gather it’s something like a resource-hogging bloated Microsoft version of Beryl.

You can get a full sense of the horror here.
