and then you conveince yourself that you could make it work just fine with the tube of op amps that have been laying around for five years and a handfull of Rs and Cs.

Twelve hours later, when Radio Shack opens, yeah, that sucks 🙂

Funny you should mention that. I have a few 741 op amps floating around, and I thought about it, but…

The circuit in question needs to have as low a component count as possible, because it’s designed to be glued to a person’s body with spirit gum–the chips, the battery, everything. I’m using ultra-fine wire-wrapping wire for the interconnects. Gluing down passive components, especially electrolytic capacitors, is a bitch; they’re round, so there’s not a lot of contact area, and they keep wanting to come off. The circuit’s not only got to stay in place, but it’s got to stay in place all evening at a nightclub.

ICs actually stay in place pretty well, once you clip the leads so they don’t extend beyond the bottom fo the package. LED displays of the kind they used to use in digital watches stay put well also. Resistors stay put reasonably well; caps don’t like to stay put at all.

Hmm, I can only imagine. Actualy I have seen your symphony web page. Have you considered making it on a surface mount pcb, then you have a entire flat side of the PCB to glue down to the skin.

Or you could just firmly implant the IC into the skin, and use it to anchor all of the other parts (you didn’t say what kind of nightclub 🙂 )

  3. Hmmmm genuine geek angst. I am writing this up to be included in the next DMS-VI (psychiatric diagnostic manual).

Hmmm well then, come to think of it, how much “genuine geek angst” is there in the world?

    🙂

More than you might think. Rght now, as I type, I’m angsting over the fact that I don’t have a G5 system, which I take as just more evidence of man’s inhumanity to man. 🙂
