Aggrevation & Such

Yesterday afternoon, someone used my email address to sign me up for dozens and dozens and dozens of right-wing Christian email lists. Sadly, the person responsible does not understand how the Internet works. That person didn’t know that their computer’s IP address was recorded in all the subscription requests.

I’ve spoken to the list moderators of many of the lists, who were quite unhappy that their lists were being abused, and who helpfully provided me with the responsible person’s IP address.

Using the IP address, I was able to trace the responsible person’s ISP, and have filed a formal complaint and a request for that person’s real name and address with the ISP. More on this as it develops.

Got a cheap automatic camera today, which I’m rigging to one of the radio servos for my RC airplane. I want to put the camera and servo on a kite, and do some aerial photography. Sounds like fun…

Date this evening with lacaba. I can hardly wait! 🙂

I’ve wanted to mount a camera to a kite for a long time now. Tried it a couple of years ago, by attaching a lever to the camera’s shutter and attaching a loooooong string to the lever so I could trigger the camera by tugging the string, but it didn’t work–the camera and kite would always move when I pulled the string, so the pics came out blurry.

Now that I have the radio gear for my RC plane, it should be a breeze. I’ve hooked up a servo to the camera; now it’s just a matter of waiting for a windy day… 🙂

“Apparently he didn’t read his Machiavelli. Particularly the part about doing small injuries to an adversary.”

Apparently he doesn’t read my LiveJournal either, or he’d know that his IP address is being logged. He was back at it yesterday; this morning my email box had over 100 “Please confirm your subscription to our electronic newsletter” messages in it.

I think it’s time to escalate my response…

    • Most mailing lists maintain a record of subscribe requests, and can provide you with the email headers and the IP address of the person who signed you up. Sometimes, they even include this information in your subscription confirmation.

If your subscription confirmation did not include the IP address of the person who signed you up, talk to the email list administrators. List administrators HATE when people abuse their lists, and are usually more than willing to help you.

      • awesome, i’ll do that. i doubt the weight watchers corporation would HATE for somebody (especially a girl like me…) to be accidentally signed up for it… when i went ot go unsubscribe myself, they compeltely ignored the request. 🙂

i actually changed my email anyways. so it doesnt really matter. 🙂
