Writer’s Block: There Can Be Only One

What a strange question.

Does monogamy exist? Of course it does. Am I monogamous? Absolutely not.

I believe that choices in life are most meaningful when they are choices, consciously made rather than accepted as defaults. I believe there are a great many people who have thought about it and decided that monogamy is what’s best for them, a great many other people who have thought about it and concluded that non-monogamy in one form or another works best for them, and some folks who don’t much think about it at all and are monogamous because they think that’s the only option available.

Life is one of those things that gets better when it’s lived consciously.

  1. Greta Christina just wrote, actually, about the word “belief” and what it means to atheists vs. what it means to theists. According to her, atheists typically separate out “does it exist” from “do I think this is good” in the definition of belief, but theists do not.

And it’s kinda funny, before I even finished reading the question, the exact same answer popped into my head. Of course it exists, but I am not monogamous 🙂

  3. You know I was going to write something very similar but then ended up not going for it, though noting my chosen monogamy rather than non-monogamy. I’m glad you did it instead, it certainly needed to be said!

  5. Of course I believe in monogamy. Of course I believe in the Bible. Stupid questions, like asking if I believe in rocks. Of course I believe in rocks. Duh. They exist.

Some people must be think-challenged, to even posit such ridiculous questions…
