Portland bound!

Leaving the day after tomorrow for my trip to Portland! I’m totally bouncing off the walls.

The real trick will be to see if I can teach my roomie the-no-lj-d to drive a stick in time to have him drive me to the subway, so I don’t have to spend $80 in parking.

  3. I’m in the process of teaching both kids to drive my stick shift. The best luck I’ve had is to talk first about finding the “sweet spot” on the clutch. No gas, right foot on brake. Slowly let up on clutch until it just starts to engage, push it back in. Do it again. and again. Get to know that spot. (G-spot, perhaps, for gear-spot?) Now, add a little gas just as you get there, one foot goes up as the other goes down.

    Good luck!

  5. A trick for your friend… take it slowly. Take him for a spin around back streets. The first 2-3 gears are the hardest to learn. The first is a killer uphills.

I own manual car. I’d walk before I had to drive an automatic.
