New poly article in The Orlando Weekly

The Orlando Weekly has published an article about polyamory, which appeared in the newspaper yesterday and is now available online. It focuses primarily on joreth and her relationships with her partner Ki and me. The Web site’s registration and login process seems to be broken at the moment, so as of right now it does not appear to be possible to leave comments. [Edit]: Apparently the login and commenting system is working now.

  1. that bit at the end about polyamory opening the door to stds was a little irritating. serial monogamy and infidelity are a lot more likely to spread stds than polyamory.

    • I think it was handled quite well, actually. Almost all media interviews I’ve done bring up the typical questions: What about the kids? What about STDs? What about jealousy? Isn’t this like swinging?

The question is going to be asked.. and the reporter handled it well, and gave a good argument about how polyamory can provide a structure for handling the issue responsibly.

      • the interviewer asked it well… i suppose i was pre-emptively irritated at the readers thinking that the lifestyle creates more risk of stds.

it was a good article. one of the better i’ve seen on the topic.

        • Unfortunately, there is a strong idea in this society that more sexual partners == more STDs. In reality, of course, it’s a lot more complex than that, but the idea is still there.

I think it has a lot to do with a lingering “sex is dirty” stigma we still subscribe to, even though we live in a society awash in sex and sexuality.

    • I added a bit of clarification now that the comment section is working, and I may have to keep popping in there as my comment gets pushed to the bottom.
