Okay, that’s weird…

So my business site is back up, kind of. You can’t surf to it–you get the Network Solutions “domain expired” redirect–but you can load images from it, and my FTP program shows all the files still there.

So I guess that images may or may not load in my journal over the next few days. Grr.

    • Don’t know. But now it’s back to not resolving at all.

This morning, any attempt to access the site got the Netsol “domain expired” page. Then, for a few hours this afternoon, queries to anything except the index page worked, but any attempt to reach the index page redirected. Now I see it’s back to nothing working at all.

I assume they’re doing something funky with the DNS entries, or maybe it was never supposed to resolve correctly and that was just a glitch in the new entries propogating. Whatever the problem is, since it’s now expired I’ve decided to do an end-run around the problem with my ex-buddy’s brother and simply register it anew in my own name. Problem is, I have no idea how long Network Solutions is going to hang on to it before they let me reregister it, which is frustrating.

  2. You should be able to renew the domain name anyways without having to prove anything – netsol is weird that way – I’ve renewed a couple customer’s domains that expired when they were away etc. on my credit card – without logging in or anything! I just double checked it again to be sure and it’s still that way. Just go to Renew Services on the What can we do for you today drop down on netsol.com. All they care is that your credit card it valid. Don’t be fooled by the login screen at the bottom – it’s only if you want to see what other domains are in that profile.

I really wouldn’t wait for the domain to expire – first they will hold onto it for 30 days as it is. Then it will be totally deactivated for 45 days – during which time you can pay like $100 to have it reactivated. After that – it gets added to a list of “To be released” domains. A lot of times if it’s a desirable domain it will be automatically registered by a service like pool.com. If I were you, and the domain is fairly short (which I’m assuming it is…), I would renew it with your CC and then continue bugging your buddy.

    • Yep, found that out when I called Netsol on Monday.

Fortunately, the domain name is the same as my business name (obsidianfields.com), which means I was not only able to renew it but also able to have the ownership transferred to me, without needing to go through the existing owner, by sending them a copy of my business license and documents showing I was the owner of the business. So it looks like it’s all getting sorted out.

The bad news is I was forced to renew it at Network Solutions’ outrageous domain renewal rates, as they won’t transfer an expired domain to a diffeent registrar until 75-90 days after it has expired. Grr…

      • Awsome! Yeah I hate that policy on non-transfer of expired domains – soooo many ppl get screwed on that, considering the avg price of a domain is now under $10/year. ciao
