Random things and stuff

First: Got a Christmas card from jul3z…thanks! It was awesome.

Second: Rather than reposting it here, I’ll just point to a snippet from Scientific American about a possible mechanism behind life extension from Scientific American in papertygre‘s journal. (datan0de, if you haven’t seen this yet, you should.)

Third: Spending the evening this evening with S; Shelly’s spending time with S‘s boyfriend this afternoon. Yay!

Fourth: Spending part of the upcoming weekend with phyrra and nihilus…yay again!

Fifth: I had about two hours invested in a 2,000+-word post, with links, that got eaten by LJ…grr. I foolishly typed it in Explorer for PC, so it’s gone. Is it just me, or if an error occurs when trying to make a post, should the LJ page actually print the text of the post along with the error message? That way, you wouldn’t lose it if something happened…

  1. Thanks for the heads-up. is in my default view, so I caught this one this morning. I’ve seen other articles about Sir2 before, but I can’t recall now where. It may have been on the Extopian mailing list, where caloric restriction has been discussed on several occasions.

The evidence is inconclusive, but seems to be pointing in interesting directions. If it’s found to be reasonably safe it’d be nice if Sir2 or resveratrol could be easily added to one’s diet. I’d certainly find it easier to take a supplement than to half starve myself! 🙂

  3. Firefox. You can click on a link, hit ‘back’, and your form input is still there.

I used to have a habitual behavior when I did use IE, where I would select all and copy the post to the clipboard before submitting it, just in case. Alas, it’s no longer ingrained since I’ve been using Firefox for so long, so I’ll probably get bitten really hard someday when I have to use IE.

Really, though, I think browsers should buffer your form submissions in some way that makes it possible to get them back, like in a temp file or something.

    • Yep, almost all the browsers I use save IE will let you go back to a form. I was using Explorer for Windows because Shelly was on my Mac, printing a paper… 🙁

I thought I had everything on the clipboard, too…I have the same habit. Found out much to my surprise that I didn’t when I went to re-post the entry…aaargh! (I had included a number of links in the entry, and one of those links was still on the clipboard…d’oh!)

I think browsers should buffer forms, and I also think that if LJ refuses to accept a post, it should display the text of the post as well. Nothing like a couple of failsafes. 🙂 The thing that’s most aggrevating, though, was LJ refused the post because the system date and time on the computer I was posting from was wrong. Since I can think of situations where someone might deliberately set out to create an entry with a date and time that’s not the current date and time, I would have to say that, in my aggrevated considered opinion, the LJ software should under no circumstances ever reject an entry because the entry’s date and time isn’t what the LJ servers expect.

  6. New relationships?

Possible new relationships for you Franklin? It will be interesting to learn down the track how these turn out for you – I hope better than your previous ones.

Perhaps since you are so ‘self-aware’ now, you will not repeat the same mistakes. Although I did believe for a while that you were destined to do exactly this.

Have fun though and stay safe.

    PS. Coming soon on LJ!
