  1. alright… now… could you explain why the hybrid-electric SUVS suck?

you don’t hav eto drive them… but people are gonna want their big old SUVS no matter what… so wouldn’t you rather the SUV-drivers to be driving something much less polutey? i know i would.

    • It’ll pollute just as much regardless, unless it gets its power from wind or solar energy. Besides that, with current technology sending compact cars 50 miles per charge, how far would you be able to go between charges? 5, 10 miles?

Economizing an SUV goes against its very nature. Especially with Bush in charge.

      • uh… we’re talking about *HYBRID-electric* SUVS, not pure electric… therefore your comment is kinda moot.

also… whether or not economizing an SUV is against its very nature seems to not be pertinent, either. i’m asking about why it would be bad to at least make the horrible gas-guzzling SUVS not quite as bad? they’re horrible… couldn’t they at least be more like the equivalent of one of todays gas-efficient sedans or something? (i just looked it up–the Ford Escape gets 38 MPG…that’s like as good as a non-hybrid honda civic. some get only like 25 but damn does that beat 12!)

i just don’t understand the rationale. at all. SUVS = very very bad. hybrid-electric SUVS = much better though nothing compared to a hybrid-electric sedan!

    • I became disillusioned with the idea of hybrid SUVs when I saw a quote from a Ford executive in a Newsweek article about SUVs about a month ago. Ford is making a hybrid Explorer, but not because they care about the environment, oh my no. The Ford executive interviewed said point-blank that the hybrid Explorer is still a polluting, gas-guzzling hog, and went on to say that SUV sales are taking a beating because of the high price of gas, and people need a reason to buy an SUV. It’s an emotional decision, he explained, and the hybrid SUV is basically a sham–an excuse for people to rationalize buying the SUV. It doesn’t save much on gas or pollution, but people will think it does, and use that as a reason to buy the SUV instead of a car–or so goes Ford’s reasoning.

  5. I posted “true” to the speed of light being a universal constant, with the assumption that you meant “speed of light in a vacuum”. I probably answered too quickly, but if you’d simply included “Cowboy Neal” as an option for that question then the ambiguity would’ve been moot.
