Instead, i want to complain about silicone.
The distribution of stress inside silicone rubber is fractal in nature. What that means is that silicone rubber tends to fail in unpredictable ways when it’s stressed. It never cleaves cleanly in the way that most solids do. It will rip or tear, always roughly and sometimes not at the point of greatest stress.
What that means is that carving, boring, and drilling a silicone dildo is exceptionally difficult and frustrating. It’s virtually impossible to get a clean hole through a silicone dildo, and the silicone can rip even when being sliced by a razor knife. It also deforms under stress, of course, so the cuts and holes assume an irregular shape when the stress is relieved.
Frustratin’.
Melting
If there needs to be a hole, would melting through it and using some sort of reenforcement maintain structural integrity of the device?

I thought about that, but didn’t experiment on the grounds that I don’t know what temperature silicone melts at, i don’t want molten silicone all over the place, I didn’t have any way to heat a tool to try to work with the silicone, and I think burning silicone probably smells awful. 🙂 I may, if I need to keep doing this sort of thing, experiment with melting rather than cutting, though.

I would think the necessary temp might generally be classified as “Very High”. I’ve used my silicone cooking tools on some pretty damn high heat and come nowhere near melting. Nice crunchy raw meat…. hot pan, cold meat, smoke detector screaming…
I was just at Costco and looking at the nice steak-like meat. Mmmm. But I decided I’d rather buy a week’s worth of other food instead. 🙁

I was carving a silicone dildo becase i was in an industrious mood last night, so I did a load of laundry, moved some furniture, cleaned up the bedroom, and made a new sex toy.
I don’t have nearly enough pictures from the con 🙁

Why not just mold one expressly to suit your purposes rather than modifying an existing one?
Seems a shame to waste a perfectly good and damned expensive dildo that way.
Molding one to the shape I needed would involve a very complicated multipart mold that’s not terribly practical. No biggie, though; I have a huge box of brand-new miscellaneous dildos and vibrators in the closet, so I just grabbed a dilsdo out of that.
Why not just mold one expressly to suit your purposes rather than modifying an existing one?

I don’t know why you would think that just because I live on the other side of the world that I wouldn’t have an interest in American politics – we have a very strong alliance with your country, unequalled by any other country in fact.
We’ve just re-elected our Prime Minister, John Howard, for a historic 4th term, and the implications of that in itself is quite far reaching – not that too many in the rest of the world are concerned all that much about Australian politics, but right now, at this time, whether Howard was returned to government was critical….but I won’t get into this too much. You would disagree strongly anyway with my opinions on this subject, and just about every other one I could think of!
Let’s just say that I will be very happy to see George Bush re-elected, and I am quietly confident that he will be.

You can cut silicone with a razor knife, as long as you’re vey careful; just use steady pressure, as back-and-forth tends to tear and fragment the silicone. For boring, I haven’t found a really good way to do it, though a smooth, sharp instrument like an awl pressed into the silicone works reasonably well. You’ll need a tool much, much larger than the hole you want (like, three times the size of the hole), because the silicone tends to just stretch around the tool.

Depending on the size hole you are trying to create in the silicone. Could you not also pierce it?? Piercing needles have the inside hollow so that the flesh (or silicone in this case) can be removed by the needle in a cylindrical plug. So now to find a piercing needle the size of the hole you need..
